She got a tan by accident on a cruise to Cannes in 1923. For years before this, being pale was all the rage (it showed wealthiness or royalty; only people who worked in the fields were tan). In the mid 20’s, tanning became popular due to Chanel.
So should we blame her for the skin cancer increase?

Do Bangladeshi people have more people with skin cancer than whites? And if so, why?

Gandolf asked:

I am doing a project about nanoparticles used in sunscreen. Some people believe it can cause skin cancer, while others believe it protects from skin cancer. Are there any statistics I can use? Maybe some about which kinds of sunscreen have been most effective. Something including nanotechnology would be nice, but even just sunscreen statistics will do.
Please provide a link or two.
Thank you.

Why do you think the societal preference for “tan” skin often outweighs the risks of developing skin cancer?
Are tanning booths safe, and why is the appeal so strong that people just ignore the warnings?
