Skin cancer occurs when an uncontrollable cell growth happens on the epidermis of the skin. Such grown cells multiply and form tumors on the outer surface of the skin, and they are clearly visible. This helps the medical practitioners to detect the cancer at an early stage.

The skin cancer is caused by the exposure of sun rays. There are three types of skin cancers. And further, each type is classified into two kinds, one is Non-melanoma and other is Melanoma. Of them Melanoma is the more dangerous and may lead to death.

The two types of cancer that occur in the human are:

Basic cell carcinoma (BCC) – In this type of cancer, the cancer cells originate in the base cells of the skin, in sense, the lower part of the epidermis. It may be spotted on the skin as a pink elevated growth, in the form of a small round knot like a pearl. It is the most common skin cancer found in the human body.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) – The cancer cells originate on the outer layer of the epidermis. They are spotted with a crusted area with a red color tumor which seems to grow.

The alternative treatment for skin cancer is: the exposure to sun for a long time should be avoided. Adequate nutrition is found to be a vital factor in the recovery of skin cancer.

Research conducted by chemists confirm that taking proteins, anti-oxidants and folic acid which are found maximum in the dishes like fish, carrots. Vitamin C is also found to be fighting against cancer cells.

By: Anand Suradha

About the Author:

Throughout the world, the incidence of malignant melanoma is increasing at an alarming rate. This dramatic rise is largely due to more frequent and prolonged exposure to intense sun, the result of major changes in clothing styles, recreation, and lifestyle (including widespread access to midwinter resort vacations). Significantly, recent scientific studies have shown an increased number of moles on, and a higher rate of melanoma in, people with the greatest sunscreen use, pointing out the mistaken belief that using sunscreen means getting a "safe" tan. The truth is that most sunscreen provides protection from UVB rays—the rays that cause the sunburn you see and feel—but not from UVA rays—the cancer-causing rays that penetrate deeper into the skin. In this book, physicians Jill R. Schofield and William A. Robinson team up to provide comprehensive information about melanoma for patients and family members as well as those who are concerned about getting the disease. They provide the latest information on prevention, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and follow-up, and answer a host of questions, such as: • I use a number 15 sunscreen. Is that enough? • I have been under a lot of stress lately. Did that make me get melanoma? • If the melanoma comes back, when will it happen? • Is there a blood test to tell if the melanoma has spread? • Is a mole more likely to turn into melanoma if it's in a place where my clothes rub? In addition, the authors describe who is at risk and tell readers how to determine their level of risk; describe skin warning signs and unusual forms of melanoma; talk about melanoma in children, pregnant women, and people whose immune systems are compromised; and take a look at what's on the horizon in diagnosis and treatment. The book is fully illustrated with color photographs and line drawings and includes a glossary and a guide to resources—support and advocacy organizations, and web sites—for people with melanoma.

Does anyone know anyone who got pregnant after fighting melanoma? My doctor says after you have been cancer free for a few years the risk of relapse is lower, but there isn’t really anyway to know for sure.
Any suggestions or stories to share?

ladybird asked:

I have a vaginal malignant melanoma. the tumor is 2.5 cm. with ulceration. I made a surgery where ovaries, uterus, the posterior wall of the vagian and the rectum where removed. my doctor said i am of high risk of recurrence. he told me there is no treatment available now except interferon and he is not really sure about its proficiency. the recommended dose he suggested is 3 million to be injected under the skin three times a week. Please help me if there are other treatments and ,if not, is the 3 million interferon dose effective or not. i did the surgery two months ago. no lymph nodes were affected. waiting for your replies. thanks everyone
